The first well driller in Ontario was Tom Hammond's
father Frank Hammond.
Frank started in the drilling business in 1919. Originally
Frank built his own drilling rigs because in those days factory equipment
wasn't available.
Frank Hammond came to Huntsville to drill the rock cut for the new Highway
11 in 1937. While boarding in Huntsville, word spread of a well driller
in town and he soon found himself drilling many local farm wells. In
the early years drilling customers boarded the drilling crew at their
home as it often took up to 6 weeks to drill a well with the cable tool
type rigs of the era. The cost of the board would be then deducted from
the cost of the well.
Tom retired in the Spring of 2005 and Muskoka Pump Service purchased
the business. Norm has been installing pumps in Hammond Wells for over
30 years. This was a nice fit for the business. His son Jeff has joined
him and is drilling wells.
Norm and Jeff will continue to provide outstanding service to our
customers. The Company's aim has always been to give the
best possible service to our customers as they are the reason for
our success.
